i have a ibm operating system/2 extended edition diskette 14 64F2815 version 1.20 corp. 1988-89
and i was wondering if i could play with the software without downgrading my PC into a dinosaur
Yes. Chances that OS/2 1.2 would boot up on a halfway modern PC are nonexistent. But in a virtualizer/emulator it should work pretty well. With the caveat that the boot floppy may need to be patched to boot on a “fast” CPU (anything less than about 25 years old). See for example here.
